Como sabemos las convenciones en cuanto a definiciones y simbologías tiene un carácter fundamental cuando se transfiere información ya sea en la elaboración de un proyecto, ejecución, operación y mantenimiento.
Esta parte contiene símbolos para uso en diagramas y planos electrotécnicos. Aunque muchos símbolos han sido agrupados en partes de esta publicación con relación a campos electrotécnicos específicos, éstos podrían también ser utilizados en otros campos.
La presente norma contiene la mayor cantidad de símbolos gráficos que son utilizados en nuestro medio, así como el reemplazo o la eliminación de algunos símbolos de acuerdo con las normas internacionales. También incluye nuevos símbolos, los cuales están en concordancia con lo utilizado en las publicaciones IEC.
La idea de tener una símbología gráfica en concordancia con lo establecido en las normas internacionales obedece a que se busca dar una norma de aplicación no solo a nivel local, sino también de una manera internacional, lo cual permita el manejo de un mismo lenguaje con otros países.
